# Silences

The [Alerting API ](/manual/implementation/platform-usage/api-reference/alerting.md)offers the capability to manage silences by enabling or disabling actions for a particular instance.

## Configuration

> During runtime, instances that share the same TAG(s) are dynamically checked for the presence of a silence.

To manage silences:

* Open tools menu

* Click on **Global settings**

  > <img src="/files/9wXHX0cMClM0zSBv4tDG" alt="" data-size="original">
* Then, click on the button **silences** in the **Alerting** section.

To begin, you are required to set up one or more filters, commonly known as tags.

The example below creates a silence for all instances sharing the tag **datacenter=dc1**.
