Activating a silence period deactivates the alerting mechanism for one or multiple instances. This proves particularly beneficial during maintenance tasks.

The Alerting API offers the capability to manage silences by enabling or disabling actions for a particular instance.


During runtime, instances that share the same TAG(s) are dynamically checked for the presence of a silence.

To manage silences:

  • Open tools menu

  • Click on Global settings

  • Then, click on the button silences in the Alerting section.

To begin, you are required to set up one or more filters, commonly known as tags.

For tag assignment details, refer to Tags section.

The example below creates a silence for all instances sharing the tag datacenter=dc1.

Upon creation, a silence becomes instantly active.
